Rosie Chapman to
Coach Nova Scotia Sailing Team
The NSYA is delighted to announce that Rosie Chapman has been hired
as NS Sailing Team Head Coach effective January 1, 2010.
Rosie is originally from the UK where she was a member of the Great
Britain Olympic Development Team for almost 3 years where she sailed
the Laser Radial and most recently the 470. She has competed at
regattas around the world and over the past few years has spent
considerable time training in Nova Scotia. Rosie can be reached via

Coach Funding
Partnership Opportunity
A key priority for the
Nova Scotia Yachting Association (NSYA) is to provide athletes and
race coaches with significant opportunities to develop their skills
and abilities, ensuring Nova Scotia sailors continue to achieve
excellent results at the national and international levels.
With this priority in mind, the NSYA is looking to form a
partnership with a yacht club to assist in funding a coach for the
Club’s dinghy racing program from April 2010 thru October 2010.
The NSYA will fund up to $5000 for such a position provided that the
Club commits to match whatever funding they receive from the NSYA.
Club matching funds must be “new funds” (above 2009 totals).
These funds are not to support capital investments.

Cruising Courses this Winter and Spring
The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron will be offering the CYA
Coastal Navigation Course, the CYA Intermediate Cruising Standard
Course and the Basic Cruising Instructor Course this winter and
spring.

Iceboating
Season Has Begun
The iceboating season has started all across the Maritimes. Sailors were on the ice in PEI and New Brunswick before Christmas, and members of the Nova Ice Yacht club opened their season on Lake Mic Mac on New Year's day. If you'd like to give ice-boating a try, have a look at

CYA to Offer
National Race Officer and Senior National Race Officer Courses
A National Race Officer and Senior National Race Officer course will
be offered at the Port Credit Yacht Club (Toronto) from March 5-8.

Canada's
Olympic Sailing Legacy ~ New Book Just Out
This beautifully designed, soft cover book provides coverage of 19
Olympiads and 4 Paralympics, recollections from 10 Canadian Olympic medallists
and profiles of the 23 Olympic Classes. Proceeds from the sales of
this book will go to support the future of Canada’s Olympic and
Paralympic Sailing Teams. For more in formation and to order click

Nova
Scotia Sailing on DVD
This summer the NSYA with the help of Sport Fund hired Luke
Hansen-MacDonald to produce a film capturing the summer sailing
season on film. The result was a great 16 minute video.
Copies of the DVD were distributed at the AGM to each Club. We
are also in the process of uploading it to YouTube.
Mobile Sailing School: Hosts Wanted
In June the NSYA launched it's mobile sailing school and delivered
the program in the communities of Arichat, St. Peter's, Mabou and
Dundee. We are now planning the 2010 program. If your Club,
Community, or Group is interested in the mobile school, please
contact the NSYA.
