LTS Directors Meeting June 14
The NSYA will be hosting a LTS
Directors and Instructors meeting on
Sunday, June 14 from 1-3pm at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. Peter
MacDougall who is Chair of the CYA Learn to Sail Committee will be
there to discuss the CYA Long Term Athlete Development Model, the
new Competency Based system and any other questions you might have
about programs. He is
one of the best resources in the country for all matters Learn to
Sail. As well there will be plenty of time for Clubs to discuss
issues with their programs.
This meeting is open to anyone with an interest in Learn to Sail
programs from Learn to Sail Directors, to parents, to
instructors-to-be.

NS Canada Games Trials Begin
The NS Canada Games Sailing Team selection trials will be run over
the next two weekends (June 6-7 & 13-14) at RNSYS. The event is
open to all. The Notice of Race for the Trials can be found here.
Coach Partnership Opportunity
The NSYA & Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic are excited to
announce a Coaching Partnership Agreement to benefit one club in
Nova Scotia. Full details here.
LTR Clinic
Set for Mid-June
The NSYA is set to offer the new CYA Learn to Race Instructors
Course June 15-17 at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. This
course is designed for those who want to get into the competitive
race coach stream. More details about the course and the Learn to
Race program can be found here.
There are still a few places remaining for interested coaches.

Welcome to the Nova Scotia Sea School, NSYA's newest member in the

Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program
In the last Federal Budget the government announced plans
to fund Recreational Facilities Upgrades, this should include yacht
clubs.

Sail Able Looking
for Volunteers
Sail Able Nova Scotia is looking for volunteers to help out with
their new learn to sail program that is being offered at the Royal
Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron this summer. If you know the basics of
sailing and would like to accompany a disabled sailor in a Martin 16
out on the water, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Sail Able
members typically book 2-hour sailing sessions, and you could
participate whenever it is most convenient for you. There is no
minimum level of commitment required. For more information please

NSYA Appleton Estate Cup -
A Great Success
The NSYA Appleton Estate Cup (formerly the NSYA Harbour Race) took place on
Saturday, May 30 and despite the weather a great time was had by all.
Many thanks to those who sponsored the event including; Appleton Estate,
Doyle Sails, Hamachi Steakhouse, Bishop's Cellar, Garrison Brewing, WCL
Bauld Insurance, William Alexander & Associates and the Binnacle.

Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club Founders Day Regatta
SHYC will be hosting a Regatta to commemorate Founders Day on July 17, 18 and 19, 2009. The racing schedule will start at 6PM on the Friday, followed by a 2PM start on the Saturday, with the final race commencing at 3PM on the Sunday.
Other attractions include a Friday Night BBQ, free Haddock Dinner on Saturday and First Mates' Breakfast on Sunday, plus musical entertainment through the weekend. There will also will also be the opportunity to view the Annual Parade of Lights from the Club's upper deck. Visiting racers are welcome to compete and take part in the festivities. Canada Day Match Racing Event
The first annual Canada Day Match Racing Regatta will hit
the waters of Halifax Harbour with a “one day, winner takes all” event
on July 1st. The
event is to raise money for the Nova Scotia Sailing Team, Nova Scotia Canada
Games Team ’09, and promote the J24 class in Nova Scotia.
There will match racing seminars, tactic and information sessions,
great food and events to make for an exciting celebration of our country.
So come out on Canada Day for some fierce competition in the J24
fleet, or take a seat on the Halifax waterfront and watch the team’s
battle it out. For more

Nova Scotia Sailors Welcome the World
Nova Scotia plays host to the World in August and September of this year
with the 2009 Laser World and Masters World Championships. From the 20th of
August to the 5th of September some of the best sailors in the world will
compete on the waters of St. Margaret’s Bay. For more information click
