NS Sailors Win 4 Medals at Canada Games
Nova Scotia sailors outperformed the rest of country
at the Canada Summer Games in PEI in late August winning a medal in
each class and capturing the team title.
Jonathan Reid and Ted Skiffington led the way with a Gold Medal in
the male 29er class while Dana Archibald and Karen Filbee-Dexter
captured the silver in the female 29er class.
In the single-handed classes Nova Scotia won two more silver. Tommy
Brosky in the Laser Class and Erin Rafuse in the Radial Class.
This was the first time that Nova Scotia has captured medals in each
class and won the team title at the Canada Games.
The team was coached by Mike Todd and Lisa Ross.
Nautel Laser Worlds Continue
After a very successful Nautel Senior Laser World Championships, the
Laser Masters World Championships are now on and continue through
September 5 at St. Margaret Sailing Club.
More than 165 sailors competed in the Senior event held from August
20-26. 2008 Olympic Champion Paul Goodison from Great Britain
captured the Gold Medal, with Michael Bullot of New Zealand winning
Silver and Nick Thomson also of Great Britain winning Bronze. Top
Canadian was David Wright in 6th place. Top Nova Scotian was Brendan
Wilton 43rd in Silver Fleet.

NSYA Fall Series Set To Begin
The annual NSYA Fall Series runs over three consecutive weekends
beginning September 12 and ending on September 27. The Series will
be held at RNSYS. Registration is $5 per day and starts at 11am,
first race at 12 noon, last race at 3pm. For more info contact the

Sailors Win Laser & 420 CORK
Congratulations to Karl Mitchell (Laser Class) and Daniel Taylor and
Adam Baker (420) for winning their respective fleets at CORK Regatta
in August. All three sailors are from Lunenburg Yacht Club. Full

Hires a New Executive Director
After an eight month national search the Canadian Yachting Association is pleased to announce Paddy Boyd is its new Executive Director effective September 15, 2009.
Boyd is a skilled executive with experience in both the administration of the sport of sailing, and the boating industry.

Hosts East Coast Albacore Championships
In late August Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club hosted a very
successful East Coast Albacore Championships with close to 20 boats
competing. More details including results can be found here.
2009 NSYA 420 Circuit
results
Daniel Baker and Adam Taylor of the Lunenburg Yacht Club
captured the NSYA 420 Circuit Championship for the second year in a
row at the Kennedy Cup regatta in early August.
More than 65 boats competed in the series this year which was a
great success.

NSYA Sets 2009
AGM Date
The 2009 NSYA Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday,
November 28 at the Saraguay House in Halifax. The day will include
divisional meetings, the AGM, and the 2009 awards. Details to
follow.
